The Involvement Fair, an event organized by the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, aimed to get students to join organizations that they are interested in at Salisbury University. The fair was located in Devilbiss Mall, Sept 6, 2024, marking the beginning of the fall semester.

Every fall semester brings together students who are new to the college format, which may be an uncomfortable experience for some. The Involvement Fair is the bridge for newcomers to become acquainted with the college setting by having them sign up for groups which connect them with like-minded people and build new friendships.

Multiple tables were set up with boards explaining the various activities, goals and aspirations of the clubs present. Students were advised to join groups by signing their names from table to table, enticed by stickers, shirts, speakers, candy, and one table containing a fortune wheel.

Women in Leadership, one of the many groups present at the fair, is an organization that empowers young women of color to reach their full leadership potential while pursuing higher education.

Kayla McGregor, a SU Senior majoring in Respiratory Therapy, serves as the Woman In Leadership’s president. Women In Leadership is an organization that empowers students of color to reach their full leadership potential while pursuing higher education.

“Women in leadership is a club that anyone is welcome to come to,” McGregor said. “We empower women [and] give people a chance to be their authentic self, find a little family.”

Members of the club get both an inclusive and open club experience. They also have the opportunity to work with other clubs in order to achieve similar goals.

“I think [we] have a very good vibe, we’re very welcoming, we [also] always extend another branch to people,” she said. “We’re also collab-ing with another major organization like ASA [African Student Association] and others, just so we can branch out with other organizations all over campus.”

James Deer, a SU sophomore, is president of the Salisbury Gaming Community. The SU Gaming Community is a club all gamers can call home, finding like-minded people to hang out with or to grab local players and start gaming.

“It’s honestly all about getting together and playing games and making friends through it; we have both casual and soon to be competitive [games] in E-Sports coming up.” Deer said. “Overall it’s a great community to be a part of, and we all get together to have fun.”

“This semester our goal is to keep the club going and growing and to get more engagement from people.”

Every club at SU strives to build a helpful and strong community where all members work together. Though there are already many established organizations on campus, new clubs are formed each year to fulfill student interests. How will you participate?
