Last Saturday, Sept.14th, Salisbury University’s football team faced Muhlenberg College at the SU home field. Cheered on by a lively audience that consistently booed the Mules and sang along with school songs that were blasted on the speakers, the game eventually concluded with a winning 59-38 score for the Sea Gulls.
Since football season began towards the beginning of the month, the Sea Gulls have remained undefeated 2-0. Led by head coach Sherman Wood, the D-3 team intends to maintain their winning streak for the upcoming Saturday match against John Hopkins’ football team, Sept. 21 at 2:00 P.M. Last year, John Hopkins won by a 35-point margin.

Admission to the Seagull Stadium for sports games is free for students. In addition to an ecstatic crowd atmosphere, which blared with chants of “you know you wanna make me shout” whenever the Sea Gulls took the ball, the stadium offers food ranging from fries to hotdogs; accompanying the stand is a gift shop littered with SU’s novelties, including shirts, hats and stickers.
Both the SU Poms squad and cheerleaders made appearances at the game. After each touchdown, three cheerleaders energetically ran across the endzone carrying SU flags to commemorate the points gained by the Sea Gulls.
These moments were enjoyed by a large audience of students, groups of friends, people from outside the SU community and those who came along with their families.
“Honestly, [the best play] would definitely have to be the 71 touchdown pass to [number] 11,” one student said. “This was my first ever game I saw and I am impressed.”
One audience member sitting with their family expressed their excitement with the game.
“Yeah, yeah, actually I enjoyed the atmosphere,” they said. “Did you see [that] every time a touchdown happened the announcer went, ‘and that’s a Salisbury touchdown!’… it was a great experience, really”
“Us Gulls pride ourselves greatly with a win– Go Gulls!”
