On Feb. 26, Salisbury University hosted its annual “SU Got Talent Show” in the Holloway Hall Auditorium, an event marked with dancing, singing and even a lightsaber battle. The SUGT performers told many stories which were meaningful and rich, brought to the stage with acts that many students viewed as magical, ultimately culminating in a great experience for several audience members and performers.

Students filled the auditorium and cheered on their fellow Seagulls. A total of seven acts were performed:

Destiny Devine, a Social Work & Music major, chose her song through her past experiences to create a moving rendition with her cover.

Jah’Kai Hall, a theatre major, performing an electric 2Pac, and utilizing full stage presence, dedicated his act to his mom.

Lara Oribello, an Elementary Education major, performing Defying Gravity on Flute, defied gravity when her music notes fell but yet she still did the act amazingly and flawlessly, even showcasing her singing at the end.

Isabella Cabera, Secondary Education major, performing the song which meant a lot to her and her grandmother.

Starr and Lyla, performing beautiful storytelling through their wonderful dances, and whose performance ended up coming in first place for the show.

The Knights of Bury, previous 2024 SU Got Talent winner, performed at this year’s intermission.

SUGT 2025 had many integrations of lights which were used to invoke emotion to the audience by the use of contrasting or at times complementary color changes in the background. It also featured a spotlight which drew attention to the solo singers.

At the start of the event, a comedian dazzled audiences with his jokes. Several judges were then introduced to those in attendance. When the acts concluded, the judges would have to make the tough decision on who would win the prizes of $1,000 for 1st place, $750 for second place and $500 for third place, respectively.

Jacob True, a sophomore majoring in Outdoor Education Leadership, came out to support his friend Isiah in the Knights of Bury.

“It was a great performance,” he said. “I loved it, I came to see Isiah but the rest of the acts were so good [and] so moving, like even my favorite performance Laura, when she went on to perform wicked it was amazing. Self taught too for 10 years? She doesn’t sound like that, she sounds completely professional.”

Isa Cabera, a junior majoring in Secondary Education, sang a Spanish song which means a lot to her.

“It was just a really fun experience, and I love to sing,” Cabera said. “Singing is something that I [have] always held close to me, I love to share my music whether it is to win or feel the love of the music that I had”.

“I don’t speak Spanish, but the lyrics spoke to me through the lyrics of love, of longing, through the song, that is why I chose it so people can understand the lyrics through song even regardless of the language barrier.”
