A mindset of courageously overcoming challenges has shaped the life of David Adebamowo, a rising social media influencer on campus who has overcome numerous obstacles to achieve greatness.

Adebamowo is a sophomore studying Information Systems and is also involved with the Black Student Union (BSU) and African Student Association (ASA) here at Salisbury University. He has also garnered over 6,000 followers on Instagram; his followers enjoy seeing his fashion posts and comedic videos, some of which have gone viral.

Building a strong and sensational social media presence comes with a plethora of opportunities, including potential promotion deals, widespread viewership and the opportunity to earn money from a platform. Once you gain a million or more followers on Instagram, you become verified and paid to post.

Adebamowo did not take his social media gig seriously until he became a student at SU. During his youth, he used Instagram and other platforms primarily as a means of having fun.

“I used to [make] funny videos when I was a kid, like skits, but nothing too serious or major,” he said.

As he has tapped more into social media, Adebamowo has realized his love for fashion and the ability for self-expression online.

“I’ve realized that social media kind of opened a lot of doors for me,” he said.

Originally from Nigeria, Adebamowo has deep respect for his cultural heritage. Last semester, he was a host for the Culture Shock event organized by SU Vanity, and had the chance to dress in Nigerian fashion.

“My culture plays a big part in my life, because since I’ve been everywhere around the world, I’ve used all of that to implement into my fashion, which makes me versatile,” he said.
